| Exploring Tuscany and Umbria Whether you are into culture, shopping, outdoor activities, eating out or just soaking up the atmosphere, there is plenty to see and do in the area. Casaccia is ideally placed for visiting beautiful hill towns, including Cortona, Perugia, Gubbio, Arezzo, Montepulciano, Assisi and Sansepulcro. Siena, Florence and Rome are a day trip away.
Markets, festivals and shopping
Restaurants The choice of restaurants in the hills and valleys around Casaccia is impressive. Many offer dishes made with their own organic produce in the spirit of Slow Food, a movement which began in Italy. Within a short drive of Casaccia, you can find a great choice of places to eat out, including acclaimed restaurants, traditional trattorias and wonderful pizzerias.
Wine tasting and cookery courses There is a vineyard in the Niccone valley not far from the house. It offers wine tasting evenings followed by dinner in its own restaurant. There are also local cookery courses where you can learn to make your own pasta. Let us know if you want to make a booking.
Walking, cycling and tennis There are some excellent walks in the area (a good walking guide is at the house). Mountain biking is available locally and there are guided bike rides for all the family (bikes supplied). There are public tennis courts in some of the local towns. There are four rackets at the house. Lake Trasimeno Lake Trasimeno is about 30 minutes' drive from Casaccia., offering beaches and water sports including canoeing, waterskiing and sailing. There are also ferry trips to the islands on the lake.
Spas and water parks There is a spa at Citta di Castello. There are also two waterparks within a hour's drive.
Golf Antognollarngolf course is an 18-hole championship golf course, just south of Umbertide, 30 minutes' drive from the house. Golf Club Perugia is three miles south of Perugia town centre. It has a par 72 18 hole course.
